Serial over IP Connector von Eltima ermöglicht die Freigabe von bis zu 255 seriellen Geräten übers TCP/IP Netzwerk und macht Ihren Rechner zum kostengünstigen Terminalserver. Als Resultat kann man auf ein beliebiges an COM-Port angeschlossenes serielles Gerät so zugreifen, als ob es an den lokalen PC angeschlossen wäre. Die Kommunikationsdaten vom angeschlossenen Gerät werden über TCP/IP Netzwerk übertragen. Das wird dank der Technologie von virtuellen seriellen Schnittstellen erreicht, die die gewöhnlichen COM-Ports emuliert. Für Windows besteht kein Unterschied zwischen realen und virtuellen Schnittstellen, aber der Nutzer muss sich nicht auf die Anzahl der realen Schnittstellen im System begrenzen. Die Verbindungen über den COM-Port können sogar keine reale serielle Schnittstelle belegen. Es bestehen 4 verschiedene Verbindungstypen: Port-to-port, Port-to-TCP Client, Port-to-TCP Server und Port-to-UDP.
